Avi to TS conversion

Ok this has been seriously pi55ing me off

I bought my 600pvr because I wanted to use it as a media center, believing I could watch movies that I've downloaded directly from the hard drive, my own fault not enough research on the movie player feature. it seems the box cant directly play avi's or mpg's, its got to be in a . TS (transport stream) format..


So I've trawled the internet and found the following way.

download a tool called ffmpeg

from a command prompt run

ffmpeg.exe -i your.avi -vcodec copy -acodec copy -f mpegts output.ts

this converted a 700meg avi into TS format for me in less than 10minutes

The output file was 1.6gig

pc spec Opteron 1.8 with 2gig ram running Vista Ultimate

But the dm600 still cannot play it (unless it was mpeg1video or mpeg2video in an AVI container before). If it was mpeg4/divx/whatever, you can't play it).
Or am i wrong here?

Definitely not. "-vcodec copy" and "-acodec copy" don't do any kind of transcoding.
