Require feedback from others if they have experienced the same problem i been having. On nokia dbox2 i have realised the channels do not lock if signal level (SNR) is less then 40%, is this due to a bug in software or the tuner itself ?
When i connect my nokia dbox1 with dvb2000 i get a signal strength of 85% on the same satellite & channel ie siruis 5E and the dbox1 has the NDT tuner. I did read on other forums that the dreambox had the similar problem earlier on but that was due to software rather then hardware..are we experiencing the same problems or is it just nokia started to cut corners and put a crap DF1 tuner ?

Uhh, signal quality below 40%? This is more than bad.
In this case FEC (forward error correction) would fail completly.
If you cannot get the digital signal decoded correctly, the tuner may not set the lock flag. Lock means decoding the data stream. The second lock flag is "has signal", which is a frequency lock.
Bad signal quality (not strength!) can be caused by
- cheap/bad cables
- small antennas
- badly adjusted antennas
- bad LNCs
- twisted cables, or many connectors
(this would cause reflections resulting in jitter)
- etc.

@rasc, I'm afraid, you are going into the wrong direction. As far as I understood the posting, he does not have a hardware reception issue - when he is connecting his d-box1, the signal check reports about 85%, but when using his d-box2 only about 40% and therefore it failed to tune.
Apparently it might be a similar issue that I have with my cable box (see subject "ves1820 problem"). DVB2000 tunes perfectly in any case, but the d-box2 tuner driver reports sometimes high BER values or does not lock at all.
@BoSSpak, what happened when you start a "cold" d-box2 directly on a channel of this transponder ?

Etwas scheint an der Sache mit dem Empfang schon dran zu sein.
Folgendes Phänomen:
Ich habe bisher an einer Anlage mit DiseqC-Schalter Astra 19,2 und Eutelsat 13,0 empfangen. Der Empfang war sowohl mit Rel. als auch Head in Ordnung. Jetzt habe ich einen Multischalter eingebaut, der wohl etwas mehr Dämpfung hat. Seither empfange ich mit Head nicht mehr alle Kanäle. Als Referenz habe ich dann auf der 2. Box Rel. vom 22.07.03 geflasht. Hier sehe ich plötzlich wieder alle Kanäle, die ich mit Head nicht sehe. Head geht erst wieder, nachdem ich nach dem Multischalter einen Inline-Verstärker eingebaut habe. An einem weiteren Strang habe ich ein Einkabelsystem Smart GP31D. Dort ist der Empfang sowohl mit Rel. als auch Head in Ordnung. Dieses Gerät verstärkt aber schon selbst ziemlich stark.
