DBOX 2 - NTSC Decoding ....
Hello Coders ,
I have just searched the NTSC information on this site , and after much translation from deutch to english , im very confused .
Can you please tell me what the status of the NTSC stream decoding situation is ?
I have a Sagem 1x Avia 600 .
Cheers

Hi Onga-Onga,
I found one post concerning about NTSC: http://forum.tuxbox-cvs.sourceforge.net ... light=ntsc
There's a plugin available for NTSC decoding which allows you to switch between NTSC and PAL.

The problem is that there are no (FTA-)NTSC feeds to test with. There used to be one on Hotbird but I f.ex. only receive Astra. I also believe that this service has either been converted to PAL or is now encrypted.
As far as the drivers are concerned the necessary changes are partially available. Partially because I think the graphics RAM (for the GUI) is not aware of the changes which means you might have problems using the GUI.
The plugins (actually they just configure the encoder) were written to enable the playback of an NTSC stream by means of the movieplayer, so they might not be that helpful.
The GUI needs to be NTSC-aware as well (Enigma can handle it but I don't think Neutrino can) because the available space is vertically reduced.

NTSC - Which service ?
Hi - many thanks for all the information .
As I said somewhere else , if ONLY I could code linux !!!
Because - we have atleast 50 - 75 full time available channels down here in the south pacifc that have NTSC 3.58 or 4.43
Put it this way - for many down here with C-BAND ....5.5150 LO , 3.4 -> 4.2 Ghz region , over half would be NTSC . Star Sport in FTA is a primary example . BBC World , CBS , NBC , NASA TV , just a few of my favorites . THis is why I still use my DBOX 1 the most !!
Im going to need some serious direction on getting this sorted .
Youre right about the GUI - just like in DBOX 1 , the DVB2000 GUI instantly changes the moment it detects NTSC - FTA or CA .
Anyone close to ULI HERMANN - can they ask him whats needed ???
It is my feeling that he will instantly have the answers / direction on this one .
Many thanx ...lets keep this going , and maybe someone will pick up the ball and run with it ( I just wish it was me ) . I code PLC's and Touch Screens - not LINUX . ...well not yet anyway

The problem, we need a stream to test/code.
So if there is any stream on a "standard" satellite pos in Europe (means Hotbird 13.2 oder Astra 19.2) we could check this.
Also possible, please provide a binary TS with PAT, EIT, SDT, PMT, ...
You can monitor and/or save those streams/sections e.g. using dvbsnoop.

NTSC
Hi , files sent , 30kb only .
@ SPACE_2063 ....Dbox 1 reference - was ONLY that NTSC controls were not released until a friend of mine made contact with Uli to describe the NTSC situation . We at the time were watching ESPN2 from PAS2 @ 169 East , and it was NTSC ( nearly most Panamsat & Intelsat services that are using Scientific Atlanta uplink services are NTSC .
We had to use the Red menu at the time to manipulate the video section , well before the actual releases contained NTSC / PAL auto switching or control menu installed .
I have a Sagem 1x and wish to see it cured of two main problems it has for use here in the south pacific / asia area .
1 ..NTSC Stream decoding , then output as NTSC ....OR maybe NTSC stream decoding , converted to PAL .
2 . C-Band reception , with normal C-Band L/O & Direct Frequencies being able to be used in the Satellites.xml file .. At the moment , the C-Band issue is only Tricked by the following method ...
a/ Take 5150 ( L/O) and subtract Direct Freq = IF
b/ Add I/F freq + Ku L/O ( 11300 + Converted Cband IF ) and use in Satellites file .
Example is ....C BAnd L/O = 5150 ghz
C Band Direct Freq = 3700 ghz ( Transponder on Sat ...C-Band )
-> 5150 - 3700 = 1450 Mhz
Then add 1450 mhz + 11300 ( pacific Ku L/0 ) or MY CHOSEN ZAPIT LNB Preference .....
= 1450 + 11300 = 12750 Ghz ( NEW Satellites.xml entry to use for searching C-Band Inverted band Transponder .
You the problem is ...C- Band is over 1/2 in NZ , - actually nearly ALL sats for DX are C-band in NZ , then to make it worse , 1/2 of the channels are in NTSC !!!!
See my problem .
NTSC & C-Band must be resolved for the D-box to be used easily and watchable for FTA in Pacific area , using most Asian or American sats .
Best Regards Onga -Onga

Thanks chris200872 ,
I hope the coders can rxv this signal , it will sure help heaps if they can .
Thankyou for finding a service that is on a bird in your area .
I cant see any of the birds that are normally included in the Satellites.xml , I always have to reload / FTP my own files for every image tested .
Thanks for this , it should help for sure .
Cheers Onga Onga

Multi Standard TV
Hi folks again ,
Just a thought - How does a Multi Standards TV detect the
FRAME RATE ....ie 50 hz / 60 hz ??
Maybe there is a query that can be at the outlet or register
in the SAA 7126 Chipset ....then code could switch or control another register
in the SAA 7126 to allow NTSC to be properly used .
On another note - thanx rasc for answer Q's and I have found the NTSC plugin on this site , however , I was not able to load the LIB files , as naturally we dont have access there .
I wanted to do Uncramfs , but my PC wont let me - not enough memory !!
So , if this tool really works , can it be included in any image soon ?
Best Regards
Onga Onga
... PS - latest ruDbox2 image has Zapit Entry now , something not perhaps used by many , but some of us with many dishes or configs , then this is a great thing to have . One less thing to FTP . Good works

Hi,
I tried with my small extra dish but to no avail, nothing was received, I couldn't even get a lock.
I guess the rudbox2 is an illegal one?
These are not supported here and looked down upon, the makers of these images steal the work of our project because they do not give back anything (as you can see, the thought of OpenSource would be to give back that feature to the community so everyone can have it).
It's not that easy, you can't simply reprogram the encoder because the clock is shared with the C-Cubes, if you do that you have to reprogram the C-Cubes as well.
Again, it's not a question of not knowing how to do it but taking the time to do it and without even having an NTSC feed to test with it's even harder. :S

Well , it does nothing illegal for me
Well , this sure does explain a few things .....BUT - im not doing anything illegal - I cannot even use any of the onboard functions !!! - They dont apply here in the south pacific - thats the ironic part of it all . In NZ - there is no service that is associated to the box at all , and neither is there any service that I can receive on my 3m dish that will work either .
Nps - I will will instantly download one of your lates images , and place it in my Dbox2 and will like to see all the features that are available .
This is great ! Thankyou for pointing all of this out to me .
New image , here I come - it would be atleast 200+ images so far that I have tried ....Enigma , Neutrino , Alex W , .....lots of different versions .
