I just got a second hand Multimedia Terminal DV3 by Nokia - D-box
(I think it's about 3 years old),
I have a little question and sincerely do hope someone can help me with this ;-)
The question is this: is it possible via a menu option to force the output
to TV in Letterbox?
Now it sends the signal to the TV the way it receives it (4:3 or 16:9)
My TV set doesn't have an automatic switch between both settings, so it
would be wonderful to have lettebox all the time.
I have no manual or anything, just the box and the original remote control.
I managed to do about everything (add channels, delete channels, put all
channels in a specific order, etc.. I even found out how to add a frequenty and scan for channels there (I changed the data in the menu which was easy and went quite well)). I just can't find a way to force into
16:9 or to letterbox.
When I push INFO on the remote, a screen displays this:
DVB Software project

DVB2000 V 1.82.0V (20.12.2000)
Extensions (c) by Sandra
Final extensions (c) NoOnemanIt
Compiled 2001.12.25 (Ver 1.2)
Would it be interesting to upgrade the software? I would only dare to do
such a task
if I'm 100% sure that the letterbox option is available in the new version.
Or is there maybe an option to force a channel into 16:9 or something?
PS: I am connected to a satellite dish pointed to 28.2 and have great
reception et all.
Thanks,
Madge

I am not really sure if you have a dBox2 or not, please find that out first. Assuming that ist is such an animal: yes, neutrino does 4:3 Letterbox, even as default. See http://wiki.tuxbox.org/Neutrino:Einstellungen:Video. I am pretty sure that enigma does so to, though possibly not as default.

Thanks for your answers!!
It says at startup: Model 9200/9500 (on the first line)
and something like X1, X2 - X5 booting
Does this mean I have an (older) type 1 box?
It works great!
Am I in the wrong forum? And is there any way to update it so I will
be able to force the output to TV in letterbox (or 16:9)?
Thanks
Madge
