Formatierpobleme mit großer Festplatte (500GB)

Ich wollte mal eben eine 500GB Festplatte in der Dbox testen, nur leider bekomme ich ab einer bestimmten Partitionsgröße (ca. 123GB) einen Fehler beim Formatieren: Memory allocation failed while setting up superblock

Vielleicht weiß jemand woran das liegen könnte?

Re-reading the partition table ...

If you created or changed a DOS partition, /dev/foo7, say, then use dd(1)
to zero the first 512 bytes:  dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/foo7 bs=512 count=1

Hast du den Partitionswert manuell im 2ten Fenster eingestellt ?

Ich hatte jetzt schon 2x HDD's die dort einen Falschen Partitionswert angezeigt haben und nachdem ich es manuell eingestellt hat ging es.

Das würde ich auch empfehlen. Eventuell reicht der RAM-Speicher der Box nicht aus, zumindest habe ich das bei meinen Tests mit dem HDD-Check bei großen Platten festgestellt. Der funktioniert bei großen Festplatten auch nur bei aktivierter SWAP-Partition. Zur Not die Platte im PC formatieren mit Knoppix-CD.

@PT-1: das ganze habe ich über telnet (und nicht über die GU) eingegeben.

Das mit der Knoppix-CD habe ich mir auch schon überlegt, aber dafür müßte ich erst einen Desktop funktionstüchtig machen. Das wollte ich mir ersparen und trotz allem wäre es doch besser (sportlicher), wenn es auch über die dbox geht

mkswap "formatiert" die swap-partition sozusagen, swapon "mounted" sie. Mal ganz laienhaft ausgedrückt :-)
Nach dem swapon solltest du in der Ausgabe von "free" sehen, daß swap vorhanden ist.

Na, da habe ich mich ja mal wieder erfolgreich als Linux-(Kommandozeilen)-Dau geoutet - aber mit Deiner/Eurer Hilfe wird's schon (so langsam ) Thx!

Mit der Swap-Aktivierung scheint es jetzt zu klappen - nur eines wundert mich noch: Warum dauert das Formatieren so elend lange - gibt es da nicht eine Schnellformatierung?
