How to avoid 4:3 distortion with 16:9 streamed movies (VLC)?

Beitrag von bluepuma »

Hi there,

I use my dbox2 (latest Neutrino release) to watch movies on TV streamed from VLC 0.8.4a (Windows).

The problem I have is that 16:9 widescreen movies are distorted to 4:3 and I get long faces.

How do I add a black border on top and bottom to maintain the correct aspect ratio?

I tried several variations of --aspect-ratio="16:9" parameters in VLC with no effect.

Any hints?

Cheers,
Michael

The best piece of advice would be: don't. Get a TV (or a projector  ) that can display 16:9 natively (unless it can already). For example, my Philips 4:3 from 1993 can do it. What you are proposing is to throw away a quarter of the (vertical) resolution.
