First communication

Hi everybody,
At first sorry once again for speaking english (Entschuldigung! I don't speak German )

I just want to start having a communication between my PC and my DBox (philips). I just want to know if it is possible using my ethenet card without passing through any hub ? And I want to know wich tool (software) should I have ? How could I also know the IP address of my dbox ?

You need a crossed twisted pair cable to connect the box directly to your pc.
The original software of the box is not able to handle ethernet.
You need Linux on the box to use ethernet.

If this is is the case:

set the ip adress of your box in setting/network (neutrino).
Using a Yadi image you have to enter maintenance mode (choose at boot) to change the IP.
Set an according IP adress in your PC and try a ping.

If ping is working you have a successfull communication between pc and box.
